Rev. Thomas Santa, C.Ss.R.
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rev. Thomas Santa was professed as a Redemptorist in 1973 and ordained a priest in June of 1978. He is a graduate of Holy Redeemer College (Waterford, Wisconsin) and the State University of New York (Mount Saint Alphonsus). From 1999 - 2011 he was the Director of the Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tucson, Arizona positioning the Center as an acknowledged leader in the ministry of spiritual renewal. Prior to coming to the RRC he was a theology teacher at St. Joseph’s Preparatory College, Edgerton, Wisconsin (1979-1980), and at St. Henry's Seminary, Belleville, Illinois (1980-1983); Associate Director/Director of Villa Christi Retreat Center, Wichita, Kansas (1983-1990), Founder/Director of the Spiritual Life Center, Wichita, Kansas (1990-1992); President/Publisher of Liguori Publications, Liguori, Missouri (1992-1999); Pastor/Rector at St. Michael in Old Town, Chicago (2011-2015). His present assignment (2015) is the Director of the New Evangelization Initiative, Redemptorists of the Denver Province currently residing in Minneapolis, MN at St. Alphonsus Parish. At the request of the Archbishop of St. Paul-Minneapolis he also serves as Parochial Administrator for three parishes: St. Gerard Majella (Brooklyn Park) and St. Bridget/St Austin (North Minneapolis).
Father Santa is a prolific writer authoring 15 books on a variety of spiritual topics including basic introductions to the scripture, sacraments, and the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent. He has been the Director of Scrupulous Anonymous for twenty years, hosted a radio program entitled Understanding Scrupulosity on Radio Maria (2014-2017). As a retreat director he was the main creative energy behind two international programs of spirituality: the Contemplative Retreat/Sabbatical and the Hesychia School for Spiritual Direction. He conducts numerous retreats and workshops for priests, religious women, and professional clergy of a variety of different denominations. His current projects include creating a new preaching experience for Catholic Parishes that integrates social media, preaching, and the reflective word and co-authoring a book with one of his nephews about Catholic Faith and Spirituality from the perspective of a priest and a millennial catholic.
